The relationship between choice of major and career, experience of university, and attrition
Abstract
This study builds on earlier findings that clear choice of major and clarity of career direction is associated with university student retention. Data on Business students’ experience of university was correlated with intention to leave data for two distinct major/career groupings – students who had committed themselves to a career-related major, either Accounting or Marketing, and those who were enrolled in the generic Bachelor of Business. Findings indicate differences in the attrition risk factors associated with each of the three majors.
