In the middle : education that engages and meets outcomes, and is fair and just
Abstract
In 2004, St Mary Star of the Sea College introduced its Middle School. There were several reasons behind the decision. One is that leaving primary school for a large school such as St Mary can be very daunting. Another is that the traditional teaching model by which many teachers were taught no longer equips students for the 21st century. It has never been more important than right now to engage students in real lifelong learning, to make them global citizens who will care about their communities and their world. Middle schooling is one way to attempt to address these issues. [Author abstract, ed]
