Beyond four walls : learning outside, and even under, the classroom
Abstract
The article profiles The Big Dig Archaeology Education Centre, part of the new Sydney youth hostel at The Rocks. New education programs have been devised for primary and secondary students, to be delivered by Sydney Learning Adventures, which focus specifically on the archaeology and history of the site. The education programs are designed to maximise students' learning experiences beyond, and under, the four walls of the classroom and have been specifically tailored to meet the needs of the forthcoming national curriculum in history by focusing on developing a suite of historical skills and understandings.
