Unlawful behaviour
Abstract
A safe school environment would be bliss - but is it an unattainable fantasy? The law recognises that school authorities and teachers have a duty of care to ensure their students are not placed in risky situations that could cause them harm while at school, but exactly what are some of the unlawful behaviours that students and teachers might engage in that can place the school community at risk? Knowing the answers might bring schools that little bit closer to being safe. The authors discuss the rights of a child and what students should protected from, particularly drug abuse and Internet abuse (pornographic material). The article also briefly examines disciplining students and the unlawful behaviours of school staff in relation to illicit drug use and pornography. [Author abstract, ed]
