Leadership that transforms schools
Abstract
Five years of international research and development have given the author new insights on strategies to turn around low-performing schools as well as sustain high levels of performance in outstandingly successful schools. Details of a breakthrough in the understanding of leadership and governance along with illustrations and guidelines for policy and practice are contained in three books that were published during the life of the project: 'Re-imagining Educational Leadership', 'Raising the Stakes' and 'Why Not the Best Schools?' The author summarises the content of each of the books, including the findings and recommendations for practice, and discusses the research which led to their publication. He concludes with a summary of how the findings of the research have been taken up. [Author abstract, ed]
