You're only as good as your last Year 9 class
Abstract
The author explains how a different approach in Year 9 science can engage students and create effective learning opportunities. He had already incorporated a number of PEEL activities into his teaching but was re-introduced to PEEL at Monash University's Science Teaching and Learning professional development program. After completing the Monash program he felt inspired to tackle his Year 9 group with some exciting new possibilities. He describes how he implemented these changes, in particular 'silent teaching', and reflects on the positive experience it engendered both for himself and his students. [Author abstract, ed]
