Abstract

This article explores the role that research into the workings of the human brain might have in improving classroom and lifelong teaching and learning. Topics discussed are brain hemispheres, the difficulty of generalising from brain research into classroom practice, the plasticity of the brain, the receptivity of the brain to language and grammar learning at particular stages of human life, dyslexia and word pronunciation in reading, and mathematical learning.
