See the world : how to organise the ultimate learning experience
Abstract
The author identifies the seven most common and costly mistakes that teachers make when planning school trips, and provides some quick tips on how to avoid them to ensure a smooth and rewarding school trip experience. Students' experiences are the ones they learn the most from and most vividly remember. It should be no surprise, then, to find that the most recalled and most positive memories students have from their schooling are usually experiences outside the classroom, but such experiences do not happen unless proactive teachers make them happen. A range of well-run tours will enhance the name of a school and provide a strong selling point, for prospective students and their parents, but school trips are really about learning, and those who go return with increased confidence as insightful team players whether they are students or teachers.
