Reaching their potential : what's working with Indigenous students

Abstract

What is working with Indigenous students and what can teachers and principals do to help right now? Plenty. The author outlines a program from the Indigenous Education Leadership Institute (IELI), a partnership between Education Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology. The IELI runs the five-day Stronger, Smarter Leadership Program, which aims to transform Indigenous educational outcomes, challenge mindsets, accountabilities and responsibilities, and pedagogy for improved outcomes. Participants have to return six weeks later for two days and present their proposals for change and outline what they done so far. The article outlines the changes and innovations that have occurred to date in five participating schools. [Author abstract, ed]
