Abstract
A shift is taking place, away from the idea of 'professional development' and towards a concept of 'professional learning'. This paper has been prepared in that context, looking at the intersection between professional learning and work, and taking into account the capacity of participants to engage with the acquisition of knowledge for personal growth and to meet the needs of their institutions. It addresses a number of themes including: professional development as part of leadership; learning, leadership and work; and the exploration of professional learning using the metaphor of architecture.
